On Wednesday, March 26, 2008, a Conant first grade class visited Windswept Maple Farm in Loudon, NH. Home of the Moores since 1780, this farm has been producing pure maple syrup for several generations. The first graders learned all about this labor intensive process. Can you believe it takes forty gallons of maple tree sap to make only one gallon of pure maple syrup? The following day, Deryke's grandmother, Janet Ulbrich, visited his class equipted with two waffle makers and premeasured ingredients for waffles. During snack time, all of Deryke's first grade class enjoyed eating home made waffles topped with pure maple syrup as the aroma floated down the hallways of Conant School.
